In the world of Chanel, we know the importance of the number five. It is the cornerstone of the scent offering, which is one of the most important fragrances in the world. The story goes that it was the fifth sample fragrance that Ernest Beaux, the perfumer, presented to Mademoiselle Chanel, and it was her preferred sample. Deemed the perfect scent for her vision of a perfume that would embody modern femininity. But five has a new facet in Chanel’s apothecary of perfume. Chance, the vibrant collection of elixirs, has a new sister, making her the fifth in the collection. Find out more in Five Is The Best Number, Lilac Is The Most Beautiful Colour
The number 5 is a rather magical number, often being associated with freedom, change, and adventure. At the same time, it also has mystical and spiritual connections, the five elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space. In numerology, it symbolises curiosity, a desire for new experiences, and adaptability.
Mademoiselle Chanel was a big fan of the spiritual world. She was also famously superstitious, and even she considered five to be her lucky number.
These energies and emotions connected to the number five, freedom, curiosity, and change, a desire to have adventures and explore new possibilities, heightened energy and excitement, sum up the perfume collection, Chance by Chanel.
The first Chance perfume, Chance Eau, was created in 2003 by Jacques Polge, the then in-house perfumer-creator. Over the years, the house introduced Chance Eau Fraiche in a fresh, vibrant green, Chance Eau Tendre in softest pink, and Chance Eau Vive in bold, vivid orange.
Bold, exciting and fun, the original Chance perfume could be worn anywhere and was the definition of female empowerment in fragrance at the time. Since then, the other facets have evolved to take the ideals of ‘taking a chance in life’ to the full; living life with a free spirit, with energy and curiosity, and with new twists and turns and, of course, new chances.
The new face of the fragrance, Belgian singer-songwriter Angèle, adds her spontaneous character to the Chance Campaign by
Jean-Pierre Jeunet,
The iconic round bottle, like a slice of a glass ball through which the fortune teller weaves her stories, the square stopper, the dice to throw when you feel brave and ready for new adventures.
The newest flacon is in an enticing soft Lilac. This important tone is linked to spirituality and renewal, often representing a new beginning or a fresh start. It is youthful and feminine, and is also associated with renewal, rebirth and first love.
So, where does Lilac meet with the fifth instalment, Chance Eau Splendide EDP? The energy is all about exploring, taking a new route, and spinning the wheel of fortune. So what is it made up of?
A delightful, refreshing light fragrance with hidden, less obvious depths. It’s surprise? A great big whosh of sparkling fruit made of a refreshing Raspberry accord. This brings the sweet-sharp tang of this most loved fruit to the forefront of the scent: It’s light, airy, crisp and vibrant.
Flying high as it does energetically, it meets a ‘goodness’ of florals. Majestic Rose dancing alongside the soft, powdery, floral of vivacious Violet, that also greets their floral friend Rose Geranium for a green-rosy softness with hints of a fresh Mint hug.
The finale? A flourish of mysterious cedar-white Musk accord, bringing a light, warm wrap to enclose and envelope.
This is the first new scent Chanel has ‘blossomed’ in eight years, and it lives up to the ‘heralding’. It is olfactory dynamite with its fruity yet vital floral flourish and a soft wrap of gentle musks and wood to engulf.
This is a global launch coming with excitement, fanfare and much fun. In celebration, London has a pop-up Chance immersive experience in none other than Chance Street in East One.
