He arrived at his grandparents’ village, having not seen them for a long time. It seemed as if nobody was home, but he heard some sounds from the back of the house. She looked lovingly at each of them, feeding them water and smelling their divine scent. From the nearby kitchen, he smelled different notes: there was a sweetness from the flowers and a delicious essence from her baking. Grandma was baking her original recipe of biscuits filled with Rose jam, maybe he could also sense some Orange and Mandarin aromas too. He closed his eyes and felt the breeze of summer wind, her garden full of pink Roses, fresh fruits and the most divine biscuits mingled in the air.

Grandma: a lovely mother, a caring sister, a comprehensive friend, doting on her grandchildren and perhaps a source of inspiration. Always, everything for everyone, she is the first one to look after you in any situation. She insists on feeding with love (even when you’re not hungry), and listens even when nobody else will. Maybe she will sometimes pass a stern word when you are wrong, but she will also teach you how to forgive and how to love. She will stand by you no matter what; a grandmother’s love is forever.

The scent of a Rose-adoring grandmother is what inspired David Benedek, of perfume house BDK, to create a new fragrance. His grandmother, whose life had been a tough one, loved Roses, leading him to want to create a scent just for her.

This is a new exploration of the much-loved flower and her; it is an ode to a powerful, nurturing, loving grandma, brought up to date for a modern, fresh, inspiring interpretation. Called Impandia, it comes in a bottle, ombréd from orange to pink. And inside the elixir, the Rose is brought to new heights.

It opens with the bright, fizzy freshness of Mandarin, Bergamot Oil, fruity, juicy Pear, and the soft spice of Ginger, followed by the balsamic, woody, gentle spice of Olibanum Oil and the sweet, lovely honey-like note of Rose Oil.

Continuing on from this, the floral scent of Orange Flower Absolute evokes warmth similar to sunlight rays, to ‘home’, and to the wonderful notes of summer flowers. Following this is Vanilla Absolute and Praline Accord: notes that are soft and comforting, blended with Caramel, Nuts and Chocolate aromas.

The earthy and woody scent of the perfume base is achieved by Sandalwood, combined with the softness and comforting wrap of Musk. This romantic elixir, created full of magic, love, charm, and dreams.

The delicious luxury components used are carefully sourced from all over the world: Mandarin and Bergamot Oil from Italy, Rose Oil from Bulgaria, Rose Absolute from Türkiye, and Orange Flower Absolute from North Africa.

Roses, as we may know, are sublime, yet at the same time, are capable of being sharp and thorny. The flower with her delicate allure is surrounded by green leaves, stalks and thorns. The depth in this elixir comes from an understanding of the complex nature of this extraordinary flower, reminding us of the depth of human love and emotional interaction.

Think back to this famous quote: “Grandmothers and roses are much the same. Each is a God’s masterpiece with different names.”. This is the definition of this perfume.

A perfume as an ode to a much-loved grandma, and to her adoration for Roses, doesn’t feel like a relic of the past, but in his creative hands feels like a modern take on what grandmas love meant to him.
