Yup, it is one of those shocking figures we read but don’t often believe or truly let sink in, and probably think ohh I’m fine… Approximately 80% of women wear the wrong bra size, so that may well include you. That’s a shockingly high number, but why may it be? There are several reasons for wearing the wrong size, including a lack of fitting expertise, bras that have become loose over the years due to over-wear and stretching or changes in breast size. This can lead to discomfort, and pain, and even affect posture and skin health. Ask many women and they will tell you that bras are basically uncomfortable and here sits the major issue. It takes women to solve this problem for other women, so meet the brand Evelyn and Bobbie and its owner creator Bree McKeen find out more in Improve Your Boobs; Evelyn & Bobbie, Here to Help
Many women only go for a bra fitting once in their lives or sometimes they are just playing a guessing game. Your bra might feel comfortable, or you may be in pain by mid-afternoon. How many women when they get home the first thing they do is rip off what feels like a piece of torture; their bra…
Interestingly the first modern bra as we know it, was patented in 1914 by Mary Phelps Jacob, it essentially was two handkerchiefs and a bit of ribbon. Not very useful in this day and age when clothes are thankfully not corsetted. Although it has evolved significantly throughout the 20th century, with innovations like padded cups, adjustable straps, and hook-and-eye closures it is still an uncomfortable piece of often necessary structure.

But what are the telltale signs that it is the wrong size? If it doesn’t exactly fit the contours of your body, then before anything else it will feel uncomfortable.
If for another example, the band is rising up your back it means you’re wearing a size too big; if you have spillage over the cup it means the cup is too small. If the straps are falling down, you might need a bra with adjustable straps. Extremely important with a good fit, is the centre panel between the cups known as the gore, is flat against your breastbone.
If you have a gap in your cup it’s easy to mistake this as being a size too big, but in some instances, you could just be wearing the wrong cup shape, different shapes of cups give different effects and support.
And one that is often an issue and can be apparent from the clothes worn on top of the underwear. If a cup is too small then the bra’s wire sits on the breast tissue which may cause discomfort and not support you properly.
For many women, the thought of getting a bra fitted is not just embarrassing but can be expensive, as well as, sadly, many shops do not measure the proper way.
The true way to measure a bust is to measure UNDER the bust to check the initial back size as this is where the majority of support comes from. Only then do you go on to judge the cup size. It’s often best to try several to see what cup size and shape works best.
For women who have had breast surgery or for women who have had anything in the way of surgery or surgery of scars anywhere the bra sits getting the right support can be even more difficult.
There are, of course, options for bras that work without straps, wires or seems but these are more like tops or sports bras; do these really give the proper support and also shape the bosom to the maximum?
It’s probably fair to say then when it comes to breasts women know best. And it was one woman who lived with massive comfort issues who chose to deal head-on with a better solution for all women. Meet Bree McKeen founder and CEO of Evelyn & Bobbie
As a 34G curvy woman, Bree McKeen struggled for years with aching shoulders, tension headaches, and posture issues from wearing an underwire bra. Fed up with the pain and discomfort, and disappointed with alternative bra options on the market. She left behind a high-potential career in finance to invent a better way. Bree found Evelyn & Bobbie dreaming of a better bra scenario for all women.
The collection of bras by EB has at the Core® a unique patented technology that lifts and separates. Described thus as a ‘fully patented 3D “sling” that is a carefully engineered “shelf” that lifts and separates from below. (unlike strapped and wired bras that pull from the top).
The EB Core® connects to a network of bonded structures, contiguous throughout the garment, and ergonomically placed, to work with the natural physiology and anatomy of individual female forms.
For example, the straps have internal bonding structures that connect throughout the garment to ensure that the weight of your bust sits perfectly on your shoulder-clavicle joint, not over the delicate trapezius muscle.
The bras are crafted from a high-tech, 3D-knit fabric with a 4-way stretch, featuring a blend of 70% Polyamide and 30% Elastane on the outer layer and 62% Polyamide and 38% Elastane on the inner layer. Easy to wear and easy to wash. They clean well in washing machines; wash cold with like colours. Use only non-chlorine bleach. Lay flat to dry. Remove pads and wash them separately. Re-insert pads. No need to hand wash the special products to prolong their life.
And as shape matters so much there are different styles, allowing for shapes and ability needs.
The Evelyn Bra provides a push-up effect for an extra lifted silhouette with comfortable scallop-shaped edges.
The Beyond Bra has an adjustable back & straps like a traditional underwire bra but with the comfort of being wire-free.
The Bobbie Scoop Bra has thinner straps and less coverage than our other bras. It’s great for warmer weather and clothing that requires thinner straps or a lower neckline.
The Structured Scoop Bra features the maximum lift of the Evelyn Bra, the neckline of the Bobbie Scoop Bra, and adjustable straps to give you the smoothing silhouette you love, with the comfort you deserve.
The Starlette Plunge Bra has all the adjustability of the Beyond bra, but with an updated cut, featuring the lowest neckline and thinnest straps out of all of our styles.
The Defy Bra is our classic, full-coverage everyday bra.
The Defy Bra Tank mimics the design of the Defy Bra but can be tucked in to create a seamless and smoothing base layer under clothes.
The Structured Scoop Tank is an extended version of the Structured Scoop Bra, making it a perfect base layer.
Of course, there is a range of knickers in the collection to match the bras, as well as seasonal add-on colours that are limited editions. The bras also come in a great selection of skin tones as well as black.
But probably one of the most keep parts of breast care is wearing the right size. So not leaving anything to chance the Evelyn and Bobbie website has advice on how to measure properly and a size guide enabling each and every woman the support to get the right err… support.
Lastly, be kind to yourself ladies and get a new fitting every six months or so as we fluctuate in weight but also emotions affect our size as do seasonal shifts. It’s always good to know what your size is. But whatever size and shape you are it’s not just about good support it is about making the most of the assets you naturally have.
