On December 17<sup>th<\/sup>, his fourth album, <em>Hunky Dory<\/em>, had its 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary. This album shifted from the hard rock tone of his earlier album, <em>The Man Who Sold the World <\/em>(1970), into a pop-rock\/art-rock style. In celebration of its legendary musical legacy, here are a few of the songs from the album that dazzled the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The opening track, \u201cChanges\u201d, surrounds itself with a unique, catchy piano riff which mixed well with Bowie&#8217;s upbeat vocals. The lyrics discussed his struggle to reinvent himself on each album, something Bowie is famous for doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Changes (2015 Remaster)\" width=\"580\" height=\"435\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BPPSu0vaNWA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The first of two tribute songs in this album is called \u201cAndy Warhol\u201d, which is about the American painter\/director named in the song. While Bowie meant the song as a loving ode, Mr Warhol himself famously hated it and stormed out of the room when Bowie first played it for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Andy Warhol (2015 Remaster)\" width=\"580\" height=\"435\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n--Ro4-hNbo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The other tribute tune is \u201cSong for Bob Dylan\u201d, which offers an opinion on Dylan\u2019s career as well as some comparisons between Dylan and Bowie. In the song, Bowie calls Dylan by his real name (Robert Zimmerman), which he relates to his own identity crisis revolving around his actual name David Jones, his stage name David Bowie, and his soon-to-be alter ego Ziggy Stardust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Song for Bob Dylan (2015 Remaster)\" width=\"580\" height=\"435\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v23YSyH3Fe8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe the most prophetic song on the album was \u201cLife on Mars?\u201d. This exciting ballad marks the early days of Ziggy Stardust, Bowie\u2019s stage persona which was propelled by his fifth album <em>Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars<\/em> (1972). Oddly, the song is not about Mars in the slightest; Bowie said that it\u2019s actually a parody of the Frank Sinatra classic \u201cMy Way\u201d. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"David Bowie \u2013 Life On Mars? (Official Video)\" width=\"580\" height=\"435\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AZKcl4-tcuo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">There are many more wonderful songs on this 50-year-old masterpiece that continue to delight and sparkle today.
