New York that city that never sleeps made up of five boroughs which are in fact more like five islands in one. Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Each is distinct and came into existence with the creation of modern New York City in 1898. Brooklyn is named after the Dutch village of Breukelen, and it is located on the western end of Long Island.  The borough maintains a distinct culture and even has an official motto,  Eendraght Maeckt Maght, which comes from the Dutch language and translates to unity makes strength<\/em>. A creative hub for many with musicians, fashion designers, artists and other creatives settling there as they left the corporate world of Manhatten. Bee Shapiro was living in the city of Brooklyn working as a beauty editor writing for the New York Times about the world of cosmetics, perfume and beauty rituals she totally adored it and even referred to herself as a geek on the subject. But something changed; she became pregnant. and it was this moment in her life that changed her for good and also a path that took her on new and unexpected journies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along came her baby daughter, Ellis; born at a time when clean beauty was a phrase we were all only just beginning to hear. Bee was starting her own road towards cleaning up her beauty regime, yet she could not find elegant clean options in fragrances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so was also born her clean beauty perfume, Ellis Brooklyn which officially debuted in June 2015. Named, of course, after her first daughter and the area where she lived. This is a story of Love Stories Bottled. A love of home family and creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collection is not a conceptual idea in a bottle but a collection of fragrances that are inspired by literature, non-fiction, articles, songwriting, poetry and verse and are very wearable pretty scents to carry you through day and night. Floral, musks, aromatics, citrus, woody and gourmand there is a plethora of scent styles to choose from, with 15 scents that make up the collection. each unique but with a tread that runs through them all giving the collection a unique signature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some names hint at the ingredients whilst others expose a little of the magic behind the elixir. Take FAWN<\/a><\/em><\/strong> for example <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“sun-warmed skin, a breeze of spring citrus and the addictive milky tones of coconut, Fawn is inspired by coming of age novels\u2014how memorable and lingering they are\u2014and the sweet innocence and underlying sexuality of growing up”.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notes open with Neroli, Sicilian Bergamot, Magnolia Oil
whilst the middle is Damask Rose, Lily of the Valley, Coconut Milk with a final dry down of Amber, Vanilla, and Musk<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or SALT,<\/a><\/em><\/strong> <\/a> which opens with Ylang Ylang, Violet Leaves Absolute
in its centre find Tahitian Tiare, Magnolia Dianica
and it finally settles in Musk, Ambergris (Vegan, sourced through NaturePrint™), Sandalwood<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This perfume is an absolute celebration of the fresh alpine air, bracing yourself as you ski down the forested slopes passing the evergreen trees breathing it in until you reach the end when it’s time for celebration via a toddy or two. Think freshness that goes into wooden barrels that have been soaked in something elicitly<\/em> boozy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start with soft spicy Saffron, sharp freshness of Juniper Berries and warming Cardamom. From there it dips into quite unexpected soft Suede, almost drinkable Bourbon, slightly earth Violet, and delicious sweet Praline, all offset by musky green Guaiac wood and almost incense-like resinous, woody Labdanum. Finally, the scent settles into
a soft Musk, creamy Vanilla, earthy Patchouli, and the two grand woods that are Cedar, and Sandal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It opens bright and green fresh and alive and finishes like a warm hug from a hot toddy on a cold day. Interestingly this particular fragrance can be worn by both men and women as its feels like one of her most genderless perfumes, woody yet fresh, warm and cold all at the same time. It is a little like the enigma of a James Bond-style character rushing the snowy slopes only to be found later sipping bourbon with a beautiful lady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
