How did such a small coastal city gain the renowned legacy it holds today, and how is it interpreted in this modern age? The sweeping city rests on the north end of the Adriatic Sea, which allowed it to control trade between Europe and the Middle East. The city soon became a renowned outlet for trade in the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
