{"id":11822,"date":"2014-04-14T12:38:10","date_gmt":"2014-04-14T11:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centmagazine.co.uk\/?p=11822"},"modified":"2014-04-14T12:38:10","modified_gmt":"2014-04-14T11:38:10","slug":"sharp-its-taken-me-all-of-my-life-to-find-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/?p=11822","title":{"rendered":"Sharp: It\u2019s Taken Me All of My  Life to Find You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Artist and film maker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.karimzeriahen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karim Zeriahen<\/a> is showcasing his work in his first solo exhibition at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lazinc.com\/exhibitions\" target=\"_blank\">Lazarides Rathbone <\/a>in Central London from\u00a011th April until 10th May.<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s Taken Me All of My Life to Find You<\/em> breaks free from the confines of film, to which Zeriahen previously limited his artistic output. Instead the works in his debut exhibition utilise light, lines and shapes to show movement and emotion in a quest to uncover the creative impetus inside, a force the artist sees quashed by the commercial art world in an exchange for an admiration of the idolatry of branded individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Portrays of five women, Zeriahen&#8217;s muses &#8211; La Contessa Cristiana\u00a0Brandolini d&#8217;Adda, Julia Peyton Jones, Cecilia Bengolea, Victoire de Pourtales, Marie\u00a0Donnelly &#8211; although from different backgrounds and origin, depicting the same: strenght and freedom, are displayed side by side in the first room of the gallery.<\/p>\n<p>A series of abstract neon shapes reminiscent of the calligraphic scrawling of Cy Twombly will fill the second room of the gallery.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11824\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11824\" style=\"width: 634px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a Me\u00a0Light<\/em>\u2019, an installation that\u00a0takes the form of a purpose-built confessional featuring original footage of Kate Moss\u00a0accompanied by a classical score by Henry Bennett.\u00a0The model\u2019s figure emerges into focus from white light as ecclesiastically inspired music crescendos, commenting on idolatry, the replacement of religions by the cult of celebrities,\u00a0the loss of meaning and a persistent obsession of the individual.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11825\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11825\" style=\"width: 634px\"
