Find out more here in <em>Thanks India.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Well, the word pyjama and the garment itself was incorporated into the English language via Bengali, during the time of the \u00a0Raj. The worldwide use of pyjamas in fact is a direct result of the British presence in India in the 18th and 19th centuries, and its rather ugly Imperial influence in the West at that time. Now we consider this garment in India to be more like a Kurta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\"><meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/>Introduced likely in the 17th century in the UK but was known at the time as &#8216;mogul\u2019s breeches&#8217;.  The pyjama was first introduced in Britain in the 17th century, originally known as mogul\u2019s breeches, unsurprisingly with a name like that they didn&#8217;t catch on as a fashion trend until around the 1870s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/smoking-1034872_1920.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/smoking-1034872_1920.jpeg?resize=580%2C419&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-120636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/smoking-1034872_1920.jpeg?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/smoking-1034872_1920.jpeg?resize=300%2C217&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/smoking-1034872_1920.jpeg?resize=768%2C554&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">They would have been considered homeware something to wear under say a smoking jacket, really for lounging around and this only really began to change at the beginning of the 20th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">As for the name itself it took the populace around the globe for it to be a commonly known word.  Derived from two\u00a0Hindi\u00a0terms: &#8220;pa(y),&#8221; for leg, and &#8220;jamah,&#8221; for garment. It entered the\u00a0English language\u00a0around 1880 as &#8220;pyjamas,&#8221;  and then  the Americans adopted the term from the British as &#8220;pajamas.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">In 1920s America they replaced nightshirts for men, and women adopted them slightly later after world war I as also a bedtime garment but also as a lounge item. He has paired up with The White Company to produce a little bit of luxury at bedtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This collection includes pyjamas, of course, a robe, a nightie and an eye mark.
