Constructed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR) the barrier officially referred to\u00a0as the &#8220;Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart&#8221;, implying that neighbouring West Germany had not been fully de-Nazified.<\/p>\n<p>In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the fall a light installation, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.berlin.de\/mauerfall2014\/en\/25-years-fall-of-the-wall\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lichtgrenze<\/a>&#8221; (light border), a symbolic frontier of lights consisting of thousands of white balloons will weave through the city recreating a 15km long segment of the former course of the wall that once separated Berlin.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"364\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3YLLiONzmNg\" width=\"647\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re in Berlin this week, don&#8217;t miss out this historical event and take a stroll along the LICHTGRENZE that passes\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bundestag.de\/kulturundgeschichte\/architektur\/reichstag\" target=\"_blank\">Reichstag<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berlin.de\/orte\/sehenswuerdigkeiten\/brandenburger-tor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brandenburg Gate<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berlin.de\/orte\/sehenswuerdigkeiten\/checkpoint-charlie\/index.php?lang=de\" target=\"_blank\">Checkpoint Charlie<\/a>. The frontier will create unique images on the streets, bridges and squares and also marks the changes that Berlin went through to become the Berlin we all know: a creative and exciting city, future orientated and international.<\/p>\n<p>On 9th of November, the actual day of the fall, the balloons (with messages attached to them) will be released by their patrons.
