Around the 10th century, the legendary Persian polymath Avicenna (Ibn Sina) refined the process of steam distillation. By using a cooling coil, he figured out how to extract the essential oils of flowers without destroying their delicate scent with high, direct heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
