A new name emerged: Scottish fashion designer Charles Jeffrey, who started by running queer clubs at Vogue Fabrics in Dalston to support his 2014 Central Saint Martins Master\u2019s studies. Born in Bellshill, Scotland, and spending his teenage years in Cumbernauld, he started his label Charles Jeffrey Loverboy in 2015. <\/p>\n\n\n

Blending Scottish heritage, a punk aesthetic with London\u2019s underground nightlife, the brand grew from a bedroom project into an international, gender-fluid fashion label known as almost wearable art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tartan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The brand is often a conduit for Scottish Culture recognized for its signature tartan, plaid patterns, and Fair Isle knitwear, often featuring surreal, hand-drawn illustrations or references to Scottish figures like playwright John Byrne. With theatrical, performance, and heady catwalk<\/a><\/strong> shows, the house is now internationally renowned and is stocked globally. In both 2016 and 2017, he won Scottish Fashion Awards for Graduate of the Year and Young Designer of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is no surprise that Scotland produces such creative souls. At its heart, it is as classical as an ancient castle and as rock and roll as its rebellious Celtic spirit and its gritty, eccentric underlying energy. Characterised in some ways by contradictions, being both historic yet modern, deep-seated traditions and a fiery individualism<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

The same spirit is true of probably Scotland’s most famous export, whisky. Created through a combination of long-standing traditions, innovative production techniques, artistic blending, and modern, sustainable practices. While rooted in a history of small, local farmhouse distilleries, the industry has evolved to use diverse cask finishes, unique distillery-specific methods and, more recently, environmentally conscious, experimental approaches<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s no surprise that there is a new collaboration of craft and spirit between old and new Scotland. A new Charles Jeffrey Loverboy and Johnnie Walker Experience collaboration starring actress Honor Swinton Byrne <\/strong>launches 29 January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A multilayered celebration of modern Scottish culture and creative expression at Johnnie Walker\u2019s Flagship Edinburgh Experience that celebrates a limited-edition accessory capsule and a new Loverboy short film entitled \u2019The Walk’ <\/strong>shot on site.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Johnnie Walker\u2019s Flagship Edinburgh Experience, located at Princes Street in Edinburgh, is an immersive, multi-sensory attraction dedicated to the 200-year history and production of the world\u2019s best-selling Scotch whisky. It features interactive<\/a><\/strong> tours, highlighted by the 90-minute “Journey of Flavour” that personalises three high-quality whisky cocktails to individual tastes, alongside rooftop bars, retail, and tasting rooms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This meeting of creative minds, through crafted fashion, brings a limited-edition accessory capsule collection and a series of specially commissioned illustrations to the venue from 29 January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The four-piece accessory capsule features a Cap, Scarf, T-shirt and Tote Bag, available in The <\/strong>Johnnie Walker Experience\u2019s signature dark blue and orange palette. The whisky brand\u2019s iconography runs throughout the collection, taking inspiration from the Striding Man\u2019s feet and transforming them into graphic walking feet, with Loverboy motifs adding Scottish cultural references and visual humour. The illustrations featured on the T-shirt and tote come straight from Charles Jeffrey\u2019s drawing process and instinctive way of building characters, with a doodled style that feels raw, spontaneous and playful. <\/p>\n\n\n

The cap and scarf spotlight illustrated footwear from shoes around Jeffrey\u2019s studio, including his claw shoes, banana boots, brogues and gully shoes. The Banana Boots trace back to the moment Jeffrey first encountered them at the V&A, later reinterpreting them as a Loverboy classic, adding a layered expression of individuality, humour and forward motion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch of the collaboration will be marked by a celebration and the debut of The Loverboy, a newly curated Johnnie Walker <\/a><\/strong>serve which will be available for a limited time at The 1820 Rooftop Bar on the venue\u2019s sixth floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate the partnership, a new short film, The Walk, has been created starring Loverboy collaborator and friend Honor Swinton Byrne, who was raised in the Scottish Highlands. Shot in and around The Johnnie Walker Experience, and dressed in a mix of archive Loverboy and their not-yet-released Autumn\/Winter 2026 collection, Honor moves between three Scottish-inspired archetypes created by Charles Jeffrey, each brought to life through one of the venue\u2019s distinct settings.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Sartorialist draws on Highland tailoring and structure. Captured on the Experience\u2019s dramatic central staircase before entering the Grocer\u2019s Sensorium Room. This, a modern reimagining of where Johnnie Walker began, the space is built around flavour, creating a bold, atmospheric backdrop for sharp, disciplined silhouettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Siren, channels Celtic mythology and romantic folklore. Filmed along the city\u2019s iconic Princes Street and on the 1820 Rooftop Bar terrace, which boasts an unmatched panorama of the city and Edinburgh Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Rebel reflects Loverboy’s connection to Scotland\u2019s underground, shaped by music, nightlife and punk attitude. Shot inside the venue\u2019s Signature Experience \u2018Landscape of Flavour\u2019, the designs reflect the room\u2019s mesmerising use of colour, sound and bold sensory cues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Johnnie Walker Experience felt right because it invites people in and encourages them to enjoy whisky their own way, breaking down any preconceived ideas. Johnnie Walker has an incredible heritage, but I was given the freedom to use that as inspiration – to play with it and make it personal. I\u2019m drawn to brands that aren\u2019t afraid to break rules and evolve while still honouring where they\u2019ve come from and this collaboration let me bring that spirit to life.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Johnnie Walker Experience opened in September 2021. Four and a half years in the making, it is the centrepiece of Diageo\u2019s \u00a3185 million investment in Scotch whisky tourism in Scotland and is the largest single investment programme of its kind ever seen in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since opening, it has attracted guests from 141 countries, from Andorra to Zimbabwe and everywhere in between, welcoming over 1.5 million visitors to date. Part of The Johnnie Walker Experience\u2019s mission is to introduce Scotch whisky to potential new fans, and challenge traditional perceptions: nearly 50% of tour visitors were women with thirty-nine years being the average age.<\/p>\n\n\n

In addition to The Johnnie Walker Signature Experience – Journey of Flavour, where visitors have their personal flavour preferences mapped with drinks tailored to their palate whilst exploring the 200-year history of Johnnie Walker, exclusive tours and experiences are also available all year round, and our rooftop bars combine world-class cocktails with innovative cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The venue was named the World\u2019s Leading Spirit Tourism Experience 2025, 2024 and 2023 by the World Travel Awards and was awarded in the Outstanding Achievement for Brand Experience category in the 30th Annual Themed Entertainment Association Awards in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnnie Walker whiskies are characterised by a blended Scotch approach, ranging from the cocktail-friendly, sweet-and-spicy Red Label to the ultra-premium, complex Blue Label<\/a><\/strong>. The core range defines itself through smoky, well-balanced profiles for the Black Label, an intensified peat for the Double Black, 15-year-old malt blends for the Green Label, and honeyed luxury for the Gold Label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
