According to the latest reports, The Abandons has been cancelled after a single season. This means that the series ends on a major cliffhanger and will not continue. Even though the show gained 19.8 million views in 28 days, the story has been left unresolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Show had Millions of People Tune in<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Millions of people tuned in to watch The Abandons, which was produced by Sons of Anarchy\u2019s own Kurt Sutter. We are seeing a huge uptick in Western content right now, with some examples being Horizon: An American Saga. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Train Dreams has also been released on streaming platforms lately, further proving that our love for Westerns is stronger than ever. Interestingly, interest in Western country music is also on the rise, with UK country music consumption growing  84.3% in 2024, while remaining the most-listened-to genre inthe US in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Western theme is so impactful that it\u2019s also spreading to other verticals, including iGaming. According to reports<\/a>, the reason\u00a0The Abandons was cancelled is that Kurt Sutter left before the production wrapped. Season one ended with an unresolved confrontation between two of the main characters, who are played by Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show documents a power struggle between a matriarch with a large, adopted family and a calculating, iron-willed woman who runs a mining dynasty. As the series progresses, it does an excellent job of portraying mounting tensions while thematically exploring the American frontier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that said, we might never know what happens next. Sutter reportedly left because he wasn\u2019t happy with the production company’s decision to split the season into\u00a0two halves, and instead wanted to do longer episodes that were released all at once. Even though dragging the season out would result in higher viewership for longer periods of time. Sutter felt as though splitting the story up into two sections would take away from the tension that had been building, and it would be a disservice to the audience.\u00a0

While we are seeing more seasons released in two halves, this format doesn’t work for every show. Sutter believed that condensing the story into a single season would make the build-up and finale far more impactful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
