They are a structural reminder of the importance of religion in society.<\/p>\n<p>Religious architecture are amongst the most impressive and permanent monolithic buildings,\u00a0built to impress the deity they are evidence of worship and dedication.<\/p>\n<p>Presently these buildings are also\u00a0admired for their architecture, interior design and position.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hagia Sophia\" href=\"http:\/\/ayasofyamuzesi.gov.tr\/en\" target=\"_blank\">Hagia Sophia<\/a>, the epitome of Byzantine architecture, was once a Greek Orthodox basilica. It later became a Roman Catholic cathedral before becoming a mosque in 1453 after Constantinople (now know as Istanbul) was conquered by the Ottoman Turks. All the catholic mosaics were covered and the alter was removed and replaced with Islamic iconography. Hagia Sophia is now a museum and most of the mosaics have been uncovered. It is interesting to see the juxtaposition of the religious iconography and architecture in the one space.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/hagia-sophia-ys-architecture_77769_600x450.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20595\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/hagia-sophia-ys-architecture_77769_600x450.jpg?resize=580%2C387\" alt=\"Hagia Sophia\" width=\"580\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/hagia-sophia-ys-architecture_77769_600x450.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/hagia-sophia-ys-architecture_77769_600x450.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sacred buildings are becoming universally known for their architecture, art and design and modern constructions reinforce this sentiment. They have begun to step away from extravagant traditional details and by taking a reductive approach, the aesthetic focuses on creating a pure mediative space.<\/p>\n<p>The famous unfinished work of Gaudi, <a title=\"Sagrada Familia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sagradafamilia.cat\/sf-eng\/?lang=0\" target=\"_blank\">Sagrada Familia<\/a>, began in 1882 and each aspect of it&#8217;s facade is completely architecturally different. This privately owned art exhibit is owned by local Chalermchai Kositpipatartist who renovated the dilapidated building with his own funds. The Martin Luther Church, Austria, uses it to\u00a0illuminate the Church through its warped, dome roof \u00a0which has three large openings. This space plays on the natural and man-made elements of the area. Utilising the natural slope of the landscape, this subterranean structure is also surrounded by a thin concrete slab that allows natural light to permeate this structure.
