{"id":47782,"date":"2017-10-10T19:17:52","date_gmt":"2017-10-10T18:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centmagazine.co.uk\/?p=47782"},"modified":"2017-10-11T12:04:16","modified_gmt":"2017-10-11T11:04:16","slug":"juxtaposed-frieze-not-so-cold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/?p=47782","title":{"rendered":"Juxtaposed; Frieze, Not So Cold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/frieze.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Frieze Art fair <\/span><\/a>is now counted in the art world as one of the most prestigious art festivals globally alongside Basel and Art Miami.\u00a0<\/span>This season London saw a massive assortment of works from across all mediums.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"> The fairwas\u00a0 founded in 1991 by Amanda Sharp, Matthew Slotover and Tom Gidley with the launch of\u00a0<em style=\"color: #000000;\">frieze<\/em>\u00a0magazine,\u00a0 and then they went on to launch Frieze London in 2003, the contemporary art fairs\u00a0 in The Regent\u2019s Park, London. In 2012, Frieze Masters, which coincides with Frieze London in October with Frieze launched Frieze New York taking place in May.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">London has just finished so what did the show have to offer this year?\u00a0 During a period of flux when not just the art world but any creative (and non Creative ) business is shaken with the &#8216;what will happen&#8217;? Brexit fear.\u00a0 Art is a great mirror (like fashion) as to how we are dealing with the economy;\u00a0 all of us within these industries\u00a0 (and out) have had our confidence shaken after all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Was this reflected in the art show? What was interesting?\u00a0 What was new ? And did the &#8216;Brexit fear&#8217; birth up anything? different? after all, difficult times are often the most interesting in the creative world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Well collaborations were big, actually collaborations were big at London fashion Week; London Design Week and so not a surprise to see many at Frieze.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Starting with fashion designer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christopherkane.com\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Christopher Kane<\/span><\/a>\u00a0 at his Mount Street store, in London&#8217;s mayfair district;\u00a0who for the 2nd year in a row hosted an the outsider artist show . This East London hub included\u00a0 Tattoo artist Dominic Myatt, filmaker James Cooper and poet James Massiah, who presented &#8216;Lineal Liminal. The three films created explored the boundaries of mark making within the abject and fetish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">For their women&#8217;s presentation<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span>Holly Blakey X Caitlin Price called \u201c(A) Specific resting place of explosion; please remove your wet shoes.\u201dWarm, pulsing feminine power slips and slides into view, gyrating with a tantalizing beat of heart, mind, and soul; this poignant performance\u00a0 wholly took ownership of the space. Transcending beyond what is simply seen into the pants of the onlooker \u2013 the viewer became voyeur \u2013 the piece projected itself into the subconscious sphere, petitioning the senses to breathe in the power of the female trance. An exhilarating and robust spectacle teases the on lookers as mirrors conceal and reveal the intimacy of the dancers\u2019 interaction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/11.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-47823\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/11.jpg?resize=576%2C384\" alt=\"11\" width=\"576\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/11.jpg?w=576&amp;ssl=1 576w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/11.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: right;\">Picture Lottie Turner<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><span class=\"s2\">In yet another part of London, Bob Parks week long\u00a0 Perform-a-thon \u00a0ran\u00a0every day from 2-6pm, during which\u00a0 artists, writers, musicians, curators, collectors and members of the general public were invited to hold a conversation with the artist<\/span><span class=\"s2\">. All participants received a portrait of themselves valued by the artist at \u00a31m. This is the ultimate coming together of all one great big &#8216;energy&#8217; via the artist and art.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">All over London every big name in London presented works, including Michael Craig Martin,\u00a0\u00a0Jake &amp; Dinos Chapman<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 Sarah Lucus and even an original intimate installation at Frieze Masters <\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0into the working space &#8211; and process &#8211; of Sir Peter Blake, you could actually walk into his work space recreated just for the event.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/10.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-47824\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/10.jpg?resize=500%2C333\" alt=\"10\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Frieze central in Regents Park did add in a few new areas this year.\u00a0<em>Emerging Talents<\/em> bought together 34 galleries from Cairo to Berlin, Focus features galleries aged 12 years or younger.\u00a0<em>Sex Work: Feminist Art &amp; Radical Politics\u00a0<\/em> curated by independent curator and scholar Alison Gingeras, featured women artists working at the extreme edges of feminist practice since the 1960&#8217;s. The\u00a0section, including\u00a0 Renate Bertlmann, and Penny Slinger, works by Barbara Kruger, Kaari Upson, Pamela Rosenkranz and Jenny Holzer to name but a few.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Focus Section: Emerging Talents<\/em>\u00a0included Emma Hart, a British ceramic artist\u00a0 who was the recipient of the MaxMara Art Prize for Women who\u00a0 had already showed at the Whitechapel Gallery earlier this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Also its worth mentioning that now the fair has grown not just from the tents in the park but as a huge umbrella term for pop up art events across the city of London during the allotted time period. From east to west art was present for all, for example a series of billboard poems by Robert Montgomery were available for all to see on various sites in Commercial Street, Ebor Street, Curtain Road, Old Street and Broadway Market in east London.\u00a0 Oh and this was yet again another collaboration of sorts.\u00a0 Robert\u00a0 teamed up with fellow poet and psychogeographer Niall McDevitt for a walk along the route of the poems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rm.jpg\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47792\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rm-1024x471.jpg?resize=580%2C266\" alt=\"_rm\" width=\"580\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rm.jpg?resize=1024%2C471&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rm.jpg?resize=300%2C138&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rm.jpg?resize=600%2C276&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rm.jpg?resize=680%2C313&amp;ssl=1 680w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rm.jpg?resize=770%2C354&amp;ssl=1 770w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rm.jpg?w=1025&amp;ssl=1 1025w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">On top of that there are now events going on at so many galleries its impossible to go and see it all ;
