Folly is a fascinating word, it comes from the Old French &#8216;folie&#8217;, meaning madness, but in modern French also &#8216;delight&#8217; and &#8216;favorite dwelling&#8217;.\u00a0Here we face\u00a0an intelligent madness, \u00a0which opens\u00a0a\u00a0door to imagination and experimentation through\u00a0its\u00a0suspension of reason and function.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A meeting point of architectural folly, is the Welsh village of <strong>Portmeirion,<\/strong>\u00a0a place in which everyone can feel the beauty of designs&#8217; plurality from the Jacobean-style town hall, to the Victorian Gothic castle and Georgian style belvedere-cum-shell grotto.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Portmeirion is a one man vision, completely designed and built during 1925 and 1975 by the unconventional\u00a0<span style=\"color: #2b2b2b;\">Sir\u00a0Clough Williams-Ellis, thought to be a glimpse of Italy in Wales<\/span> .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/33105725013_14c94cc4e5_b4.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-51253\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/33105725013_14c94cc4e5_b4.jpg?resize=580%2C410\" alt=\"33105725013_14c94cc4e5_b\" width=\"580\" height=\"410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/33105725013_14c94cc4e5_b4.jpg?w=700&amp;ssl=1 700w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/33105725013_14c94cc4e5_b4.jpg?resize=300%2C212&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/33105725013_14c94cc4e5_b4.jpg?resize=600%2C424&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/33105725013_14c94cc4e5_b4.jpg?resize=680%2C480&amp;ssl=1 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #362f2d;\">Source of inspiration, the intriguing design of this pretty little village has regularly appeared on film and TV \u00a0shows. &#8216;The Village&#8217; as it is known due to its contribution to the TV series &#8216;The Prisoner&#8217;, which epitomized the counter-culture vibe of the late 1960s and Portmeirion village provided the perfect canvas for the psychedelic storyline.
