You can understand a perfume brand named after its founder,\u00a0or you can imagine a perfume named after a place or time or even the signature house that created it, but can you understand why a perfume brand is called 4160 Tuesday? Well even if it is explained it is still not so ordinary an idea is it? So we are clear, the perfume brand 4160 Tuesday<\/span><\/a> is so named because if we live until say 80 years old, apparently according to\u00a0Sarah McCartney<\/span> we will have experienced 4610 Tuesday’s in our life… yes I’m still no nearer to understanding why she named her perfume label so. Maybe that’s just the point because\u00a0Sarah McCartney<\/span>\u00a0is not your usual perfumer.<\/span><\/p>\n

For a start she began her working life as firstly, an author and then as a writer for the cosmetic brand Lush. It was only whilst researching a book where the lead character made perfume did she start to really get into the craft, mechanics and chemistry that is perfume making. Sarah wrote the book\u00a0The Scent of Possibility<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>and turned perfumery into her life’s work.<\/span><\/p>\n

So it’s clear here we are discussing a Brilliant English eccentric. Meet her and you may be thinking you have meet the lead of the local knitting circle, ‘speccy’ spec wearer and supporter of a red lip she is a mad girl from Middlesborough, who just happens to be a somewhat genius self taught perfumer. She is just at home with a glass of champagne as she is with a good old British cup of tea and a biscuit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe this is why her perfume brand and the names of each of her scents are so many miles from the rest of the marketplace. Where big brands opt for ‘Joy’,\u00a0 ‘Chance’, ‘Diamonds’ and ‘Rush’ style names that are supposedly a path, a way of being, with bottles designed to echo that, Sarah comes from a far more interesting, inspiring and sophisticated angle. \u00a0She is ultimately about capturing feelings, emotions and moments in time, happy memories and happy moments, moments that we want to revisit.<\/span><\/p>\n

So what does\u00a0Captured By Candlelight<\/strong> actually smell of ? Well according to the company it’s the scent of Christmas Pudding alight with blue brandy flames, served in an oak panelled dining room, lit with candles. Rich, fruity & boozy, with woods and a wax candle note. So this means in reality that the top notes are cognac, cinnamon, toffee with heart notes of stewed fruits, toasted hazelnuts and finally with base notes of opoponax, candlewax and oakwood.<\/span><\/p>\n

or what about<\/span><\/p>\n

The Sexiest Scent on the Planet, Ever. (IMHO)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>it’s apparently\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0smooth, soft and seductive which means \u00a0Lemon Meringue Pie, blended with velvety woods!!!<\/span><\/p>\n

Then there is\u00a0Goodbye Piccadilly <\/strong>which is\u00a0<\/strong>very on trend as it’s a scent for Suffragettes, first made for London Transport Museum with materials used in 1914: violet, iris, lavender, leather, vanilla and patchouli.<\/span><\/p>\n

These are just three, but they give you an idea of just how left field the creator is. But far more than a creator, Sarah is a perfume connoisseur and a fragrance lover.. whilst working at Lush she also studied\u00a0over 200 books on cosmetics and perfumes, with her first creation being a Cologne she made with her nephew for his mum. She\u00a0also has a background in maths and sciences somewhat of an essential skill for a career in perfumery.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

This is born out by her personal collection of magnificent world renowned fragrances. She has acquired originals of some of the most important perfumes ever created and also originals of items like Miss Dior, which yes, can still be\u00a0 bought, but not as the original formula. This is because in 2000 many perfume ingredients were banned as they had the potential be irritants, so many famous perfumes had to be remodelled with different formulas; most consumers will smell no difference but to a very well trained nose may well notice a slight difference.<\/span><\/p>\n

All her own fragrances are made by hand in her West London studio with some being tiny runs of something she has obviously had fun creating, but she is sold at some of the most prestigious perfume shops like\u00a0roullierwhite.com<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a010corsocomo.com<\/span><\/a>\u00a0luckyscent.com<\/span><\/a>\u00a0escentual.com<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0Les Senteurs,\u00a0Fenwick Bond Street,\u00a0<\/span>and she has won many a prize within the fragrance world.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0has workshops and courses at her West London studio where novice noses, can come and sit and learn with her, even make their own fragrance to take home; check out her website here<\/span><\/a> to see what she has on offer. Some of her classes are not based in London as she does travel (no doubt like some mad perfume Dr Who) so there may well be an event near you.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of the day if you are more ‘Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring’, than\u00a0Beethoven’s Fur Elise then this is the brand for you.<\/span><\/p>\n
