The art of filmmaking is not something which comes naturally to all. There are many out there doing it,\u00a0but only a gifted\u00a0few offer a completely unique approach, proceeding to stand out from the crowd and revolutionise the conventional methods with a willingness to be different. There\u2019s probably no better example of this than the late filmmaking genius: Stanley Kubrick.<\/p>\n

You would think a man with such intellect and creative\u00a0prowess\u00a0would be recognised from a young age. Far from it:\u00a0Kubrick struggled as a student at school, despite being bright. \u201cI never learnt anything at school, and I never read a book for pleasure till I was 19,\u201d he once revealed.<\/p>\n

Studies\u00a0didn’t\u00a0interest him, but photography caught his eye. Then, after working as a photographer for a few years, he\u00a0moved to\u00a0films: a decision he would never look back on.<\/p>\n

What happened next is no secret. Boasting some of the most distinguished films ever made (See The Shining<\/em>, A Clockwork Orange<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a02001: A Space Odyssey<\/em>, to name a few), Kubrick\u2019s\u00a0re-invention\u00a0meant that the subjects of his films were never repeated. His works went far beyond existing practices, forever changing\u00a0how we\u00a0put films together.<\/p>\n

From a different breed of filmmakers altogether, Kubrick did most of the researching, writing, photographing and editing for his films himself. He remains an enigma to this day; but the man is remembered for this painstakingly meticulous approach to his craft. A perfect example is the fact\u00a0that\u00a0The Shining<\/em> entered the Guinness Book of World Records with 127 retakes for a scene involving Shelly Duvall.<\/p>\n

The film has also been hailed for this masterful shot with Steadicam, a camera stabilizer mount invented by Garrett Brown, who shot the scene. The technology changed\u00a0cinematography\u00a0forever, allowing the operator of the camera to move smoothly and steadily along with the object in focus.<\/p>\n
