Whilst a British summer often consists of umbrellas and wellies rather than sunbeds and flip flops, it is nevertheless home to many a rainy summer holiday with the occasional appearance from the sun &#8211; sound familiar?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brighton\u2019s unique and exciting charm has seen it become a central influence for many artists, musicians and writers throughout history. One of whom is Graham Greene, with his 1938 murder novel <em>Brighton Rock<\/em>, set in, you guessed it: Brighton. The novel tells the impressive adventures of Brighton\u2019s youngest gangsters and their life of love, lies and crime; something a bit like this&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u2018As I recline exuberantly into the tattered Egyptian blue and faded white striped deckchair, I place my duffel bag purposefully onto the baking hot pebbles as I prepare to settle here undisturbed for the remainder of the day. I place an oversized cap over my face deliberately, as the darkness engulfs me and at once my remaining senses are heightened by my surrounding environment. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>There is a soft breeze\nfluttering through the air; enough for my blush linen shirt to ripple gently across\nmy chest but not strong enough to whisk my newspaper pages away. The air is\nclear with subtle hints of salt mixed with the strong candied scent of\nconfectionary; just the thought of which tempts me to arise from my slumber. However,\nthe soothing crash of the waves accompanied with the buzz of children\u2019s voices\nslowly eases me to an ethereal trance. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>At once, I am awoken\nby a cacophony of raucous sounds as a bevy of young men come hurtling across\nthe beach front. One such gentleman, imaginably the ringleader, carelessly sweeps\nacross me and grazes against my skin as I catch a gust of his robust odour. His\nscent clings to me as I process the combination of caliginous cigarette smoke,\nsalty perspiration with a light, woody and leathery tone.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Shortly after this blaze\nof action, a handsomely plump women gracefully appears with a curious yet\nsagacious gaze. She is dressed elegantly but appropriately, wrapped in a\nbeautiful silk paisley blouse and adorned with an iridescent pearl necklace. She\nsmiles shrewdly and proceeds towards me, revealing a sweet fusion of burnt\nsugared- candy and delicately tenacious blossom\u2019. &nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Tuberose1102-copy-1024x682.jpg?resize=580%2C386\" alt=\"Brighton rock perfume Miller `harris\" class=\"wp-image-60740\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Tuberose1102-copy.jpg?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Tuberose1102-copy.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Tuberose1102-copy.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Tuberose1102-copy.jpg?resize=680%2C453&amp;ssl=1 680w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Tuberose1102-copy.jpg?resize=770%2C513&amp;ssl=1 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><figcaption>Image Jason Yates <a href=\"http:\/\/jasony.com\/\"> jasony.com\/<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Miller Harris assumed literary\ncharacter and scenic influence from Greene\u2019s novel for three of their perfumes;\neach different in depiction, yet collectively eliciting imagery of delightful\nflirtation and glamour set in a candied and salty, sea landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1.<em> Brighton Rock<\/em>\nis a sensual perfume which transports the wearer to delve deep into their\nmemories of days spent by the seaside, whilst provoking an uplifting energy. The\nperfume has a fresh, woody and sweet scent; eliciting nostalgic childhood\nmemories. Its Head notes are; Rose, Geranium and Iris. Its Heart notes are; Lily\nof the Valley, Jasmine, Rose, Sandalwood, Salty Accord and its Lasting\nImpressions are; Candy, Heliotrope and Musk. One can just imagine the course, hot\nsand beneath their bare feet as a cool breeze blows through their untamed hair,\nwhilst children play joyfully in the gushing and expansive ocean. The Salty Accord\nperfectly accompanies the Sandalwood to give a crisp, earthy aroma, whilst the Candy\nand Jasmine contrast to create a sweet, yet fresh, lingering scent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. <em>Blousy<\/em>, by\ncontrast, is an enchanting perfume full of glamour and mischievous flirtation.\nIt remains elegant and sumptuous whilst being spirited and provocative. Its\nHead notes are; Pink Pepper CO2, Coriander Seed, Davana, Cinnamon and Green\nMandarin. Its Heart notes are; Iris Concrete, Violet Flower, Rose Marocco abs,\nRose oil, Turkey, Carnation, Hawthorn, Strawberry Liquor and its Lasting\nImpressions are; Tonka bean abs, Sandalwood, Oakmoss and Vanilla. Its fiery\npepper notes superbly compliment the sweetness of the syrupy rose and smooth\nvanilla to arouse memories of charming and vivacious characters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. Finally, <em>Violet Ida<\/em> takes Greene\u2019s Ida Arnold as its muse to create this beautifully noble and heroic scent.
