I remember as a\nchild I spent ages pouring over catalogues when I\u2019d saved up enough pocket\nmoney to be able to afford one. As personal items go, they\u2019re usually one of\nthe most considered. This is because a good watch becomes a reliable companion,\na close friend. When it\u2019s not with you, you miss it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A treasured chronometer is an investment, an heirloom to be passed down from generation to generation, potentially present at the beginning, middle, and end. It\u2019s possible that by now some vintage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronext.co.uk\/tag-heuer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">TAG Heuer watches<\/a> could have been passed down at least three generations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\neminent Swiss brand was founded in 1860 by pioneer watchmaker Edouard Heuer\n(pronounced hoy-yer). Heuer was an innovator and made innovation the core tenet\nof his company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From\nhis workshop nestled in the Swiss mountains, he developed a number of patented\ninnovations that are still core components of many watches today. After a\nseries of beautiful pocket watches and aeronautical instruments- with an onus\non horological precision and accuracy- in 1914 TAG Heuer released their first\nwristwatch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\nthe next half-century, against a backdrop of worldwide upheaval, they continued\nto push the technology forward and in 1962 a TAG Heuer watch took the accolade\nof being the first of its kind in space when American astronaut John Glenn used\nto time one of the first manned orbits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Post\nthis stratospheric event, the brand doubled down on its unique blend of style\nand quality with the legendary timepieces Autavia and Carrera. But it was\n1969\u2019s Monaco that cemented TAG Heuer\u2019s place in the pantheon of great\nwatchmakers forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monaco,\nwith its unique square face, adorned the wrist of style icon Steve McQueen in\nthe movie <em>Le Mans<\/em> and began a\nlonglasting association with elite motorsport- most notably Ferrari and the\nfabled Ayrton Senna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"426\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/5e69fca717f575596d710bbc-large.jpg?resize=426%2C600\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-74265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/5e69fca717f575596d710bbc-large.jpg?w=426&amp;ssl=1 426w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/5e69fca717f575596d710bbc-large.jpg?resize=213%2C300&amp;ssl=1 213w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monaco is widely regarded as a design triumph and features high in lists of the greatest chronomatics of all time. It\u2019s a statement timepiece, true to what a watch of its calibre represents: style and status. An original will set you back upward of five figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Part\nof the brand\u2019s continued success is in its wide appeal. They\u2019re able to make\nrelatively affordable pieces for under \u00a31000, right the way through to around\nthe \u00a320,000 mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even as the world of smartphones cause traditional watch sales to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/is-time-running-out-for-the-swiss-watch-industry-1520867714\" target=\"_blank\">tumble<\/a>, TAG Heuer\u2019s culture of innovation has kept them ahead of the pack into the 21st century. Their latest smartwatch is considered one of the best in the market, marrying the brand\u2019s physical design tropes with modern materials and clean software and apps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2020\nsees Tag Heuer\u2019s celebrate its 160th birthday, making it one of the oldest and\nmost prestigious brands still around today.
