It was over two months ago that she said she was leaving. She\u2019d told her mother, she\u2019d told her friends, she\u2019d told her doorman and the girl behind the counter of the cafe that she went to again for lunch today. They had all politely forgotten she\u2019d ever mentioned it. Her boss had been a model who\u2019s best friend had married a movie star, a movie star whom she\u2019d had an affair with, and had now been married to for three decades. <strong><em>\u201cDID YOU GET THE CALL SHEET HANNAH?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cYes, sorry, it\u2019s been on your desk since 8 AM.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cI asked you to email it to me.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Hannah knowing full well that she\u2019s received a drunken email this morning at 2 AM expressively clarifying that the call sheet not be emailed to her but be on her desk for her arrival by 9 AM sighed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cI\u2019m sorry, my mistake. I\u2019ll email it over to you now.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cSilly girl, can you make a lunch booking at Le Gavroche for 2:30?\u201d <\/em><\/strong>the moulded mound of plastic skin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">This was impossible. It was 2 PM and Le Gavroche books up 6 months in advance, not to mention they stop serving lunch at 2. &#8211;<strong><em>\u201cThey\u2019re closed\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, she replied tightly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cTell them it\u2019s me.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cOk\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, Hannah replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized is-style-default\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/coffee2.jpg?resize=580%2C593\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81326\" width=\"580\" height=\"593\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/coffee2.jpg?w=432&amp;ssl=1 432w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staging.centmagazine.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/coffee2.jpg?resize=293%2C300&amp;ssl=1 293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">She\u2019d had the same conversation with the same hostess countless times already. Will her famous husband be joining her? No, he was on location, or with his mistress, or with prostitutes like he always was. They wouldn\u2019t be able to accommodate them. She had fantasized about leaving within three days of starting. She\u2019d been here for a year, she\u2019d gone to an Ivy League, she could find another job. Her parents could help with the rent. She was supposed to be running production but she\u2019d been relegated to being a PA because there were no productions. Hannah thought about her options, she had a masters in Feminist Theory, she wanted to work in popular culture to make films that mattered, and failing that at least stem the rot of the ones that were being made. That was her purpose and this was just her life. She\u2019d stick it out, she\u2019d deal with this. It would get better. It couldn\u2019t get worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cWHERE IS THE CALL SHEET?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Hannah walks into her office and takes the one piece of paper off her desk and brings it to her on the chaise lounge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cDid you make the booking?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cThey told me they\u2019re closed\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cDid you tell them it was me?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cYes\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cIt\u2019s overrated anyway.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cJust get me a table at the Ivy.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cThey\u2019re also closed until dinner.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cAre you completely useless?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Hannah started doing her breathing exercises, in and hold for 3 seconds, out and hold for 3 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cAre you?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cNo\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, Hannah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cThat\u2019s all, go back to your little desk.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Just like that, it dawned on Hannah that she had never had a desk, she worked off a coffee table and she knew that it was now or never. She could have told her the litany of vile things people had told her about her, she could have lived out her fantasy of crushing her, but at that moment she\u2019d realized that she didn\u2019t hate this woman, she pitied her. She knew she didn\u2019t have to live like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cI have to go now.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> She walked over and gave the shocked woman a short tight hug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#706685\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<strong><em>\u201cI hope you\u2019ll be ok.
