Skin is one of our most important organs. It is one of the only parts of us that come into contact with the outside world. It keeps our vital organs safe and it keeps harmful microbes out. It also allows us to feel. Whether it is the pleasure of a warm blanket or the chill on your arms when you forget a jacket, skin is central to not only the simple pleasures of life, but also our safety.

Not a single person has the same skin. Whether it’s factors like oily versus dry, the amount of melanin in our skin, or our age, we each have unique skin and we need unique skincare that suits it.

In fact, Dr Craythorne did not start her career in skincare, but rather she started as one of the UK’s leading skin cancer surgeons at St. Johns Institute of Dermatology and was one of the first ever dermatologists to launch a skincare line. 

Having performed over 500 melanoma removals annually, Dr Craythorne knew she had a passion and skill set for helping people achieve the healthiest version of their skin possible. Hence, the dermatology clinic, KLIRA, was born. 

The KLIRA ‘Special’ is a custom prescription formula meant to create cellular change in your skin. It must only be applied once in the evening and can replace all other treatments in your routine.

The first step in KLIRA’s Special is finding one’s ‘skinsize’. This refers to a detailed, 51-question online test that uncovers genetic characteristics and environmental exposure that might affect the skin. With this information, your ‘skinsize’ will be revealed and you will be put into one of 12 categories based on collagen, melanin, sebum, and barrier. 

The 12 categories from one to 12 are — Unpredictable, Adaptable, Keep Safe, Easy Breezy, Complicated, Parched, Hyperactive, Prized, Delicate, Gifted, Fortunate, The Jackpot. Each of these different skin types has different needs that KLIRA is able to cater to once identified.

Once a person has taken the skinsize quiz, it is time to create their special formula that will be sent monthly. Each formula uses ingredients such as Glycerine, Hydrolysed Collagen, Aloe and Hyaluronic acid to maximize penetration, but also avoid irritation. Depending on the person, their custom formula will be decided using KLIRA’s holy trinity — Ingredient + Dose + Base.

This process takes the guessing out of skincare. Each person’s Special will be curated using carefully dosed medical actives like Tretinoin and Azelaic Acid that are custom for a person’s ‘skinsize’. These are combined with a non-medical base that is meant to complement and soothe the skin. Because each person’s formula is custom, this allows clients to avoid the usual irritation of generic retnoid treatments. 

In addition to your custom KLIRA Special delivered monthly, they also recommend a skincare regimen curated by dermatologists free of charge. This is meant to optimize and complement the Special in order to give clients the best skin they could hope for.
