As aspirational as fashion is, what it stands for, in so many ways, is a lifestyle, a choice, a form of enjoyment. Work hard, play hard and enjoy the fruits of your labour in elegant ways. The choices of how you do this in the world of high-end have never been more diverse, yet the trendiest way to indulge is via your tummy; you can now eat your luxury. This trend, this intersection of haute couture and haute cuisine, if you like, is taking the world of luxury by storm. Many brands have delved into this culinary delight, opening up cafes, bars, and restaurants, bringing a fusion of taste and style. Joseph Ettedgui from the fashion store Joseph opened his Joe’s cafe in Sloane Street, London, in 1984. It was an instant hit with the glitterati, all who loved being seen hanging out there.
But the fusion of fashion and food has come a long way since then. Many big luxury houses took to opening restaurants in large stores to fuel their customers and give them an added immersion in the brand. But few have taken on this most majestic trend better than Louis Vuitton.
Louis Vuitton first entered the restaurant industry in February 2020 with the opening of Le Café V and Sugalabo V within its flagship store in Osaka, Japan, Le Café V, Le Restaurant, Sugalabo V, Osaka, with Chef Yosuke Suga, a friend of the Louis Vuitton Culinary Community. The brand later expanded its culinary offerings with a restaurant in Saint-Tropez, France, and also established a restaurant in New York City in 2024.
This is a fusion that brings together the ideals that lie at the heart of the brand. After all, Louis Vuitton started out making trunks for world travellers, and so in another facet, we now have the opportunity to ‘eat the brand’
Its total now includes permanent venues at London Heathrow, Bangkok, Osaka, Doha, Paris and Milan. Each destination, a curated experiential extension of the House, comprising various dining experiences, including Le Chocolat Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton for sweet indulgences, and Louis Vuitton Cafés for an immersive journey into the art of luxury snacking. Following the first Café and Restaurant
From its first foray, this unique culinary concept has expanded globally, each showcasing seasonal ingredients and locally inspired flavours. Initially brought to life in Saint-Tropez, spearheaded by renowned chefs Arnaud Donckele and Maxime Frédéric, who serve as Mentors to grow a circle of local, talented chefs. Think of them not just as creative community heads and mentors but as the ‘creative directors of food’ for the house.
From Michelin star-awarded Restaurants to signature menu items in the Cafés and an exquisite selection of haute pâtisserie and chocolates, each Hospitality concept offers new and joyful ways to discover and interact.
This multifaceted culinary approach, encompassing Michelin-starred restaurants, distinctive café offerings, and exquisite pastries and chocolates, provides diverse and engaging opportunities to experience the world of Louis Vuitton.
But where the clever next step comes is the idea of the restaurant equivalent of fashion Pop-Ups, or limited edition collections, so the house has seasonal spaces, including St Tropez, in France, Taormina, in Sicily, New York in the USA and Chengdu in China.
The latest stop on this culinary journey is Saint-Tropez, a curated experiential extension of the House comprising Louis Vuitton Restaurants for elevated dining, Le Chocolat Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton for sweet indulgences, and Louis Vuitton Cafés for an immersive journey into the art of luxury snacking. Each will showcase savoir-faire, seasonal ingredients, and locally inspired flavours.
With Saint-Tropez as the birthplace of the Louis Vuitton Culinary Community, Arnaud Donckele & Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton in Saint-Tropez once again provide a destination to discover through the summer.
