Do you hear it? Do you feel the live music pulsing through your body? Are you ready for Family Tours, Talks, and Collection Tours? Then what are you waiting for? Hooray! It’s the Tate Modern gallery’s 25th anniversary. Find out more in This Weekend, Tate Modern Is The Place To Be
Tate Modern is an art gallery in London, housing the United Kingdom’s national collection of international modern and contemporary art. It’s the third most visited in Britain and the fourth-most visited art museum in the world. Can you imagine what kind of grand event is waiting for you, right?
The free celebration of art and music is going to take place from 9 to 12 of May and includes an extremely enthralling program. The museum, in partnership with UNIQLO (a leading Japanese retail holding company with global headquarters in Tokyo), organised the Birthday Weekender for all enthusiasts of art, galleries, and culture.
Everyone will have the occasion to step into the galleries for a live tarot reading inside Meschac Gaba’s Museum of Contemporary African Art, and catch an exclusive performance by Abbas Zahedi in Gathering Ground, a free exhibition tackling climate change and social justice.
Over in the Tanks, Lawrence Lek fuses gaming and film to imagine a world ruled by sentient AI, while María Magdalena Campos-Pons will have a performance echoing the history and architecture of the power station. In addition, don’t miss thought-provoking talks in the Starr Cinema, featuring inspiring artists like Nalini Malani and Maxime Jean-Baptiste.
Everyone will also have the opportunity to admire free art displays. Louise Bourgeois’ iconic spider Maman returns to the Turbine Hall, joined by a new trail of 25 standout works, featuring classics by Warhol and Dalí.
Across the unforgettable weekend: Catch Ten Minute Talks – personal stories from the people behind the art; Fun 30-minute Family Tours for ages 5–11, discovering 2/3 artworks through play and stories; Free guided Collection Tour and stories behind Tate Modern’s art; African Heritage Tours and art that celebrates African and Caribbean history; Art Chit Chats, an interactive art activity for families and kids aged 4–8.
Karin Hindsbo, Director of Tate Modern, said “Tate Modern’s birthday isn’t just a moment to reflect on 25 years at the cutting edge – It’s a chance to keep pushing artistic boundaries and to give a platform to the next generation. Our birthday weekend will be a truly public celebration of art and creativity to which everyone is invited. We are incredibly grateful to our longstanding partner, UNIQLO, for their support of the Birthday Weekender, reflecting our shared values and belief that art is for everyone.”
So don’t lose your chance to participate in the event of the year where a lot of activities are waiting only for you! Join the celebration, feel the energy, and get inspired – Tate Modern turns 25, and the party starts this weekend!
