Well, according to the latest reforming, reaminging of Bois d’Argent from Francis Kurkdjian, Perfume Creative Director of Dior Beauty, this is exactly what he was looking to achieve with his latest interpretation of a Dior signature scent. The Original

This intriguing scent was originally created in 2004 when Hedi Slimane was the creative director of Homme Dior Runway, initially, a woody Chypre fragrance for both women and men. Aromatic Juniperberries sit with dry, fresh, woody, and aromatic facets of Cypress, alongside cool powdery Iris that create the lead, in the original construction.

The heart is sweet woody with an intense aroma of soft, smoky Incense via Somalia Myrrh, earthy Patchouli, creating a damp woody aroma that characterises this chypre fragrance.

A sensual base warms the coolness from the top notes with creamy Vanilla, cloud-like Musk, golden warmth of Amber, natural sweetness of Honey, alongside deep Leather and woods.

A Perfume for Both Men and Women

Best described as floral and woody, a perfume for both him and her elegance, rich and deep. A wood accord entwined with powdered Iris note, for an almost religious, mystical experience in the heart of a forest where the sun shines through the branches, dappling light onto skin.

The updated, new, powerful concentrate is part of the new luxurious interpretations of the most iconic La Collection Privée signature fragrances, known as Les Esprits de Parfum, which are inspired scents melded into new powerful concentrations. This bold revisitation is led by Francis Kurkdjian, the Dior Perfume Creative Director.

Francis Kurkdjian composes them by revisiting these icons to give them unprecedented dimensions to ‘power up’ these icons. This is no simple task and needs a depth of skill and a ‘library-like ‘ knowledge of ingredients. A perfume that goes from an EDP to an Extrait level is not simply about putting in more raw notes. It’s about how they are fractioned, melded and fused to highlight newness yet be true to the original.

Frankincense

It is about how a master understands what the perfume originally stood for and how, by changing, adding and taking away, this will bring a fuller version to the fore. For Francis Kurkdjian, he looked to the Powdery yet soft rooty Iris (Orris) and the resinous soft citrus spice of mystic Frankincense. How to rework this? An original honeyed-musky accord was the core to its new success.

An Accord is part of the great perfumers’ magical abilities. An accord is a grouping of singular notes to create a specific ‘scented emotion’. Exploring this added facet allows the elixir to reach new heights.

The finale of this new expression brings a luxurious, sophisticated, long-lasting intensity; a radical perfumed experience explored through extreme concentration and a play of Yin-Yang.

Bois d’Argent Esprit de Parfum

The Vanilla creamy warmth, a hug tied to the cooling Powder of earthy, soft Iris, the house’s own fields grow Iris as a cooperative, allowing for a truly superior ingredient to be used.

Bringing a sort of warmth and cooling opening added to the sexy, animalic, skin-like, soft spice and velvety elements of both Ambroxan and Ambergris. These empower both the Honey and Frankincense to explode into their full potential of a resinous, smoky spice and glowing warmth. The finale brings about a soft, luminous glow of skin-like delicacy to a powerful, almost mystic scent.

“With this Esprit de Parfum, I wanted to extrapolate the addictive “skin-to-skin” sensation of Bois d’Argent and emphasise its olfactory signature. I drew its remarkable harmonious balance out towards elegant and sophisticated extremes.
