Ayurveda Experience
The practice is a Sanskrit term that combines the words Ayu (life) and Veda (knowledge), representing one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems. Originating over 2000 years ago in India, Ayurveda, the science of life, offers a comprehensive approach to health that integrates mind, body, and spirit.
Ancient Roots: Scent as Spiritual Healing
Long before fragrance became a luxury commodity, Attars, natural oil-based perfumes, were used in South Asia in spiritual ceremonies, healing rituals and in royal courts.
These botanic elixirs, steeped in Ayurvedic tradition, were applied to pulse points on the skin, believed to balance the body’s energies called doshas, stimulate the body’s Chakras, and elevate consciousness.
Ingredients like Sandalwood, Jasmine, Rose, and Kashmiri Saffron were revered not only for their fragrance but for their therapeutic properties. Stored in clay vessels and handcrafted in copper stills, they embody centuries of emotional and medicinal importance, depicting purity and intention.
Ataratma London Perfumery
Ataratma revives this heritage again, not as nostalgia, but as an innovation into modern aesthetic and wellbeing. The name Ataratma is a fusion of two Sanskrit words, Attar (scent) and Atma (soul), suggesting its deeper mission, which is to transform perfumery from ornaments into emotional alignment.
This new perfume and transformative brand, founded by Ada Panday, is more than just a bottled fragrance; it is a sensory philosophy that rewrites the rules of luxury perfumery by blending Ayurvedic wisdom, neuroscience, aroma therapy and European olfactory artistry. The outcome of this blend is a collection of perfumes that feel less like accessories and more like emotional rituals and cultural reverence.
The Science of Scent. Ayurveda meets Neuroscience
Ataratma London elevates this ancient aromatherapy by fusing modern olfactory neuroscience into every bottle made. Each fragrance is designed to stimulate specific emotional states such as joy, resilience, sensuality, and mindfulness by integrating Ayurvedic botanicals with scientifically studied aroma compounds that influence mood and cognition.
The brand is broken down into four signature collections, Atma, Ananda, Kama, and Zakra, each crafted to reflect this emotional architecture.
Atma, meaning The Grounding Ritual, is an Ayurvedic-inspired practice for calming the mind and centring the soul. Every spiritz evokes mindfulness, bringing clarity and spiritual alignment.
Under the Atma collection, find three distinct scents.
Aikyam Rose is an inspiration of Aiktam, the idea that all things in the universe are connected as one. Perfumer Nelly Hachem-Ruiz created this abundant celebration around spicy, rich floral notes of Rose and Geranium with green, woody undertones. The dazzling top notes of Bergamot and Raspberry give the scent a cosmic feel, blended with the warm Ambroxan and spices for an intimate base.
Aroha Absolute. Aroha, meaning spiritual ascension in Sanskrit, is inspired by temples throughout Asia. This playful, fruity, floral and frankincense elixir is a temple inspired by juicy fruits and flowers, in a cloud of smoky Incense, this fragrance is grounded by earthly woody notes.
A bowl of sweet, juicy candy notes of Strawberry and Mango, blended with spicy, leathery Amber and a fragrant white floral heart of Moroccan Orange flower and Jasmine, the ultimate sacred flower in Indian culture. These are wrapped with a soulful Incense, bringing depth, complexity and a sense of spirituality. The soft, earthy, woody base notes of Vetiver and Patchouli ground the perfume. This scent is created to invite a sense of balance and harmony.
Orris Nirvana. This meditative, powdery, Orris with Leather, Patchouli, Sandalwood and Musk accord is a scent to send your soul soaring into peaceful white clouds of calm.
The blend of Orris with hints of Violets and woodiness with Suede and soft Musks is the heart of this powdery floral, woody ‘skin’ scent. A rich, earthy, woody Patchouli creates a grounding base, elevated by radiant opening notes of pink Pepper and green Mandarin
The Ananda collection, meaning The Joyful Awakening, is an inspiration from Ayurvedic botanicals, a profound pure bliss and contentment in Sanskrit. Ananda is a luxury perfume that has ingredients to elevate a sense of happiness and well-being.
Ananda has two fragrances under its collection,
Chakra Champaka. A fruity floral, Orange flower, Neroli and ylang ylang combine with pistachio and fresh citrus to create this fresh, intoxicating, and delightful perfume. An uplifting fresh citrus oil blend with the exotic White floral heart and green nutty Pistachio accords to create a fresh and intoxicating trail. This scent is inspired by the Sacral Chakra, composed of fragrance centred around the Orange flower, which is a symbol of purity and joy
Smitam Santal. Inspired by the name ‘smitam’, meaning Smile in Sanskrit, and the Tuberose flower, which is central to celebration in India. A blend of invigorating, bright, warm, and positive notes of ginger, medicinal Ginseng, a creamy, woody Sandalwood, and a tiny dose of green Cardamom, Smitam Santal is a transformative olfactive portrait of a smile and a joy to wear. It is hard to say Smitam without smiling!

Kama Carnal. A seductive ylang-ylang, Neroli, Orange and Coconut water create an intoxicating, creamy, fruity, floral and exotic amber perfume with Gourmand undertones. This scent is an inspiration of the Sanskrit texts like the Kama Sutra, exploring love, desire and passion. This magnetic blend of carnal floral melts into a soft embrace of resinous Benzion, dreamy coconut water and sensuous Cashmeran that feels like a skin scent. Dark Vanilla and a fruity, spicy Patchouli deliver an addictive base.
Rati Patchouli. Inspired by Rati, goddess of love, this perfume opens with a soft, Musky, warm, and slightly floral ambrette that smells luxurious and magnetic. A blend of voluptuous tropical heart of juicy Peach and Mango for a carnal facet, and the slightly boozy, Balsamic Davana with its green aromatic accords, it has a seductive sillage.
And finally, the Zakra collection, typifying Strength Within, is an inspiration from Ayurvedic herbs used to build immunity and inner strength. Zakra is power without force, created to help you stand taller and feel fearless.
This fragrance has two key scents within its collection
Shakti Saffron. A deep, smooth saffron with cherry, leather and labdanum accords delivers this confident, boosting perfume. Precious Saffron (used for centuries in Ayurvedic healing for revitalising and centring) was combined with a refined balance of addictive resinous Cherry, spicy Amber and leather notes, with accents of Cardamom and earthy, elegant Moss.
Tonka Bala. Inspired by the third Chakra, which is responsible for self-esteem, to create this confidence-boosting, addictive perfume. It has a blend of edible Vanilla and nutty notes, in contrast with the spicy, smoky leather and exotic Jasmine, standing on a smooth, seductive base of Musk and Sandalwood, to create an empowering Gourmand leather with a magnetic sillage.
