Luxurious Clarity, Scented New York Reaches London’s Liberty
There is a lot of perfume these days to choose from; endless new launches for 2025 may well leave some of us more confused than ever. Before the late 1908’s revolution of niche (small perfume makers), there may have been 40 to 50 or so launches per year. In 2025, new perfume releases are expected to be around 4,000. How on earth do we navigate this plethora of deliciousness? Are there simple ideas that can help? How can we demystify fragrance in order to have a level of better understanding? Find out more in Luxurious Clarity: Scented New York Reaches London’s Liberty
Fragrance isn’t one-size-fits-all, but we have been conditioned in some ways to think we like a certain style of perfume and think we should stick to that. We may think we like creamy scents, or floral scents or think we dislike ambery juices or even dark smoky ones.
Maybe we are the type of person who loves to walk into a room and announce themselves via the scent they are wearing, by the trail of their chosen elixir. Others may prefer to have a personal and close-up relationship with their perfume, something really they and a loved one can sniff; close and personal.
Is it possible we have been conditioned to think of our fragrances in very notational ways? That we fit within a certain category that we can’t break out of? Well, we all can; it’s just a matter of trying new things. But undeniably, it’s no easy feat. Yes, we hear about a ‘perfume wheel’ about florals and woods, ambers and gourmonds. But that doesn’t always help. What if you could break down the styles and types of perfume in an easier way?
Commodity, the USA scent brand, has a simple and unique way of doing this. Firstly, they have seven styles of perfumes they have created as a stepping stone into a fragrance and within the seven scent profiles, there are three versions of each that allow for a gentle to powerful exploration of said scent.
The seven different stopies include Velvet (warm spices), Paper (warm woody), Gold (bright fruity), Moss (fresh Green) Juice, (tart rich fruit), Milk( sweet and creamy) and Book (tea and wood). Take, for example, Moss, the house’s Fresh Green and Skin Scent scent story. The three versions are:- a close Personal version, a balanced Expressive version, and an amplified Bold version.
Personal
Moss’ green and citrus aroma of Bergamot, Oakmoss and Petitgrain is made weightless with a molecular cloud of Musk. Vibrant and refreshing like a breath of fresh air.
Expressive
Fresh, green and earthy, it’s a blend of Oakmoss, Cedarwood and Petitgrain, reminiscent of a walk in the woods at dawn, wet, cool, clean and reviving.
Bold
Moss’ green and citrus aroma of Bergamot, Oakmoss and Petitgrain amplifies with the added freshness of Juniper Berry and depth of Amber. A more masculine tonic that quenches all the senses.
