Perfumed lightness is a meeting under love and craft
Light is an elusive presence forever shifting, bending, and shaping the world around us, transforming surfaces, moods, and perceptions without ever being touched. It glimmers across water, filters through trees, and seeps through windows, crossing buildings, making shadows, painting emotion into every moment. It is an intangible substance, mirrored in many a creative process, working so often as a muse. Today, it melds both architecture and scent in a new fragrance story. The new perfume, Fantasmagory by Louis Vuitton, takes this intangible beauty and translates it, allowing light to become not just the central theme of the juice but also the bottle.Read more about Perfumed lightness is a meeting under love and craft. This new perfume, Fantasmagory by Louis Vuitton, takes light, this intangible beauty, and translates it into scent, allowing brightness to become something that can be felt, worn, and remembered. Created by Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, the House’s Master Perfumer, the fragrance captures the luminosity of air itself, a composition that flows, gleams, and lingers like a memory.
Yet to top it off, the bottle, which was born from a creative dialogue with Architect Frank Gehry, another master of light, is sculptural, reflecting his fascination with movement, light and shadow. Together, they merge scent and structure, craft and emotion, a luminous encounter where architecture and perfumery speak the same radiant language.
Bottle cap design by Frank Gehry
Frank Gehry’s work has always been “like light”, deliberate, reflective, and ever-changing. The architect’s mastery lies in his ability to use form and material to capture, refract, and animate illumination. Through his reflective surfaces and dynamic curves, Gehry’s buildings seem to breathe with their surroundings, constantly shifting as the day unfolds. For him, light is not a decorative afterthought but the defining element of architecture; it reveals texture, defines space, and transforms structure into living art. In his designs, light becomes both medium and muse, shaping how a building is experienced both emotionally and physically.
I wanted to approach the project from a sculptural point of view. To bring something different to perfume. It’s not a finished geometric form; it’s just movement. Visual movement with the added interest of ephemerality.
Frank Gehry
This lifelong fascination with luminosity finds new expression in Louis Vuitton’s Fantasmagory, where Gehry extends his architectural language from monumental structures to the intimate scale of perfumery. Starting with the elegant Les Extraits silhouette originally designed by Marc Newson, Gehry reimagined it as a fluid, curved vessel that appears to float weightlessly and alive. Each contour catches and releases light, transforming the bottle into a miniature sculpture of reflection and motion. The hand-polished metal cap, delicate and abstract, crowns the design like a silvery flourish, a frozen gesture of movement that echoes the ethereal character of the perfume within.
In this collaboration, form becomes scent, and scent becomes light. Gehry’s architectural sensibility merges seamlessly with Cavallier-Belletrud’s olfactory artistry, creating a complete sensory harmony where the visual, tactile, and aromatic coexist in perfect balance. Just as Gehry uses light to define space, Fantasmagory uses it to define emotion, blending the physical and the poetic into one luminous masterpiece.
Fantasmagory fragrantica
Through the interplay of sparkling top notes, soft luminous hearts, and grounding bases, Fantasmagory mirrors the natural evolution of light across the day, bright, diffused, shadowed, and radiant, creating an olfactory experience that is dynamic, immersive, and deeply personal. The perfume is not simply a composition of ingredients but a living, breathing entity, capable of shaping mood, invoking emotion, and transforming perception in a way that mirrors the very nature of light itself.

LV collection: Extrait de Parfum 2025
Fantasmagory is part of Louis Vuitton’s Les Extraits Collection, where each fragrance is conceived as a concentrated, sculptural work of art. At the heart of this perfume lies ultra-concentrated vanilla, elevated beyond its familiar warmth and sweetness into a radiant, multifaceted centrepiece. Cavallier-Belletrud surrounds it with anise and ginger, which ignite the opening with a sparkling, luminous energy that captures the brightness and clarity of the first light of day.
I wanted to venture where no one goes anymore. To reinvent the notion of an Extrait in a contemporary way. To bring it to light, expand matter, and lighten things up. I wanted to deconstruct the very architecture of perfume

Vanilla Tweak
The heart of the fragrance reveals almond and soft floral accords, introducing depth and tenderness, a gentle, powdery glow that evokes the diffused warmth of sunlight passing through sheer curtains. Finally, the base of vanilla and leather anchors the perfume with sensuality and depth, giving weight to its ethereal radiance and allowing it to linger long after the initial sparkle fades. The composition is a study in contrast and balance, a meticulous layering of brightness and shadow, movement and stillness, allowing the perfume to breathe and evolve organically on the skin.

Luxury Perfumery Vanilla Reimagined: Radiance and Modernity
Vanilla, often considered familiar or even comforting, is utterly transformed in Fantasmagory into a radiant, modern, and multidimensional note. Cavallier-Belletrud treats it as a prism through which light, shadow, warmth, and freshness interact, allowing the fragrance to be at once grounded and ethereal.
Its interplay with the sparkling top notes of ginger and the soft, creamy nuance of almond creates a sensory journey that is immersive and dynamic, evolving on the skin with subtle shifts over time. This reinterpretation embodies Louis Vuitton’s vision of luxury fragrance as an art form, where every ingredient is thoughtfully selected, and every layer is crafted to evoke both emotion and imagination. Fantasmagory transforms something classical into something entirely contemporary, allowing vanilla to shine in a new light while remaining timelessly elegant.
Luxurious bag of Motion: Light, Emotion, and Transformation
What distinguishes Fantasmagory is its ability to convey motion and emotion simultaneously. The perfume flows and evolves, shifting from sparkling clarity to soft radiance, from warmth to depth, capturing the dynamism of light as it interacts with surfaces, textures, and moods.
It is a fragrance that responds to the wearer and the environment, creating a dialogue between skin, air, and space. Each note, each subtle nuance, contributes to an experience that is cinematic in scope yet intimate in execution, inviting the wearer to inhabit a world suffused with light, elegance, and emotional resonance. Fantasmagory blends gourmand, floral, and woody elements into a seamless, luminous whole that is at once joyful, sensual, and unforgettable.
Luxury Reimagined: The Modern Language of Perfume
Fantasmagory embodies the very philosophy of Louis Vuitton’s approach to perfumery: luxury as artistry, fragrance as architecture, emotion as design. It demonstrates how scent can be sculptural, conceptual, and deeply moving, allowing perfume to occupy the same space as painting, music, and architecture in the imagination.
Through its radiant composition, fluid bottle design, and the mastery of both Cavallier-Belletrud and Gehry, Fantasmagory transforms the familiar into the extraordinary, creating a sensory landscape where light, movement, and scent converge. It is not merely a perfume; it is a journey, an experience, a luminous meditation on the art of seeing, feeling, and inhabiting beauty in all its forms.
