Martin Scorsese to Return to Las Vegas for New Netflix Series

Iconic director Martin Scorsese is returning to the casinos of Sin City itself, Las Vegas, for a new eight-part Netflix series. The octogenarian Oscar winner, best known for works like Goodfellas, Taxi Driver and The Wolf of Wall Street, also directed the 1995 Academy Award-nominated Casino, starring regular muse Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.

And now, three decades later, Scorsese will team up with Billions showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien for a fresh take on the thrills and spills out on the casino floor.

A New World

Of course, much has changed since the release of Casino all those years ago.

The digital revolution has seen more and more players around the globe turning to internet casinos for their favourite games, with online slots, blackjack, roulette and more available at the leading sites. They can also claim bonuses and promotions on their smartphones and tablets, while – in some cases – even wagering on sports from the same account.

That technological change, allied to other economic pressures, has seen visitor numbers to Las Vegas fall, with an 11% decrease in June 2025 alone.

But there’s still plenty of interest in the happenings in the Neon City; particularly for the creative industries, who have long leant on the casino floor for inspiration.

Koppelman and Levien also cut their teeth in the gambling sphere, writing the screenplay for the 1998 cult hit Rounders, starring Matt Damon, Ed Norton and Gretchen Mol. That was centred on the often-chaotic world of high stakes poker games.

The duo then turned their attentions to Las Vegas with Ocean’s Thirteen, the final instalment of the heist franchise that was filmed largely at the strip’s Wynn Casino.

They will now join forces with Scorsese, who will act as the executive producer of the as-yet-untitled Netflix series. The plotline is set to focus on the activities of Robert Redman, who serves as the president of the ‘hottest hotel-casino in town’ but who – as is par for the course in Vegas – has an appetite for more and more… at any cost.

The series is set to enter production and is slated for a late 2026 release.

The casinos of Las Vegas have been plundered for silver screen ideas many times over the years.

Those range from the dramatic – Casino, Leaving Las Vegas – to the comedic (The Hangover) to the absurd, with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas a psychedelic celluloid adventure based upon the diaries of infamous writer, Hunter S. Thompson.

The rise in popularity of reality TV saw the cameras trained on the professional gaming floor in American Casino, while short-lived comedies Blansky’s Beauties and The Defenders – both canned after a single series – mined their laughs from the absurdities of Sin City.

Even long-running series, from CSI and Friends to Scooby Doo, headed to Las Vegas for entire seasons or standalone episodes.

There is just something about Vegas that makes it the ideal location for fictional studies of human behaviour… Netflix will be hoping they’ve hit the jackpot by bringing Scorsese, Koppelman and Levien on board for the latest foray onto the casino floor.
