A Little Dark Rose Fragrance To Love
The Rose is known in perfumery as one of the most iconic and majestic of scents. Her rule over perfumery goes back centuries, partly because she is such a multifaceted scent. From Honey sweetness to Lemon tinges via green steam and leaf angles, she becomes a magical note melded in the hands of each great creator. The new perfume from Australian house Goldfield and Banks, Rose Magnitude, brings a new side of the Rose to us. Here she is, a little bit moody, dark, dirty and even spicy. Australian Perfume House
If nothing else, Goldfield and Banks, the Australian perfume house, celebrates all things floral and fauna from this Antipodian land. Each delicious opus is crafted around native ingredients and, by doing so, brings fresh and unique facets to the world of fragrance alongside a new impetus to scent. Here is a new perfume that has many facets that blend into a beautiful opus.
Goldfield and Banks
Demetri Weber, the creative and owner of the house, has never before imagined a Rose-centred fragrance. Probably the most important note in floral perfumes, Roses have a huge importance, as arguably, they are the most important natural component in the global perfume industry. The Rose oil industry, particularly in areas like Turkey and Bulgaria, is a crucial source of income for local farmers. And yet for Dimitri, it did not appeal to build an elixir around its velvet caress.
Pink Salt Lakes of Australia
Taking the landscape as a starting point, and specifically the Pink Salt Lakes of Australia, these grey and dusty-rose-coloured landscapes, a perfect metaphor for a new take on the most famous flower in perfumery. Here, floral fuses with spices like Cumin to add facets of an almost exciting darkness, as though Dante’s hell was filled with this flowered elixir
A Rich Floral Scent
A complex ingredient list highlights the craft that manages to meld together diverse and unexpected facets. Opening with a burst of fresh Raspberry, and rich spice of warm Cumin alongside an echo of roseiness via Geranium and bright spice of fizzy Ginger.
Perfume Ingredients
Its heart is filled with an exceptional Orris Butter with a real clarity, an almost clean-earthy facet brings an earthy-powder into play along with powdery Violet leaf that sits here with the richness fullness of Damask Rose.
It’s finale, a celebration of natural botanicals of its mother country. With native soft Sandalwood, Black vanilla Tonka bean, bringing a creamy wash alongside an almost dry-nutty facet from Buckwheat woody dry earth via Papyrus and a creamy, balsamic angle from Sandalwood Amyris.
Pink salt lakes in Australia are naturally hypersaline due to high concentrations of beta-carotene-producing microorganisms. They produce pigments to protect themselves from intense sunlight and high salinity, creating the distinctive colour. And here with this scent, it is as if there is a protection of notes that surround the rich Rose. The battered earth, the drying winds, tainted with Salt, echoed in the spices and woods coating and ‘holding’ the precious flower, allowing her to manifest her most unusual temperaments here. A kiss from a single Rose rather than a field full of honey sweetness.
Also, a new way to look at spice, rather than just a selection of woods usually seen with spice, the floral note here lifts this to a rather majestic, almost mythical scent. And in many ways, this shows why the Rose is so beloved in perfume, as she can meld when in the hands of the right creator.
