Discover The New Benefit For A Colour-filled Spring
The bright, vibrant pink of a flower, the golden glow of a sunset, the life-giving green of a fresh pea, the violet hue of a new shirt. Colour is everywhere. It affects our lives on many levels, conscious and subconscious. So what would life be like without it? It’s hard to understand what life was like before we had colour TV, films and magazines, or when colour on clothes could only come from simple plant life and lacked the vibrancy of modern-day dyes. The latest launch from the beauty brand Benefit reminds us to be our wonderful, colourful selves. Find out more in Discover The New Benefit For A Colour-filled Spring.
A Strong Relationship With Colours
In our contemporary world, colour is a powerful tool for communication and influence. More than just an aesthetic issue, the power of a good array of colours is of the utmost importance. Colours are an emotional language that can convey feelings, thoughts, and ideas through the shades we see. Think red for love, money, power or even anger; it’s very culturally dependent.

Movies In Black And White
But there was life before 100% colour. Black and White films, for example, dominated the cinema industry from the invention of the cinematograph by the Lumières brothers in 1895. However, monochrome cinema and images quickly began to disappear between the 1930s and 1950s, as the colours in movies became more prominent. Firstly, designed to counter the rise of series and television at home and let cinemas still be appealing, colours quickly became much more than just a marketing tool to prevent cinemas from disappearing.

Technicolour Revolution
Hollywood’s Golden Age films such as ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (1939) and ‘Gone With The Wind’ (1939) saw the technique of Technicolour start to be widely used in the 1940s and 1950s, spreading throughout the Hollywood Hills, becoming the future of the Silver Screen. But it wasn’t just the movies that saw this change.

Monochrome Magazines
For magazines and newspapers, Johannes Gutenberg revolutionised printing in 1450, easing the spread of knowledge, but also allowing printed newspapers to exist in their modern form. Initially in black and white, sometimes featuring a drawn illustration, the production of colour printing magazines became outstanding in the 1890s-1910s, through chromolithography, with colour advertisements dominating in the 1920s and standard colour magazines following soon after.

Colourmania
The introduction of colour in films, television series, and newspapers profoundly changed the way people experienced media. And still the addition of colour plays a big part in our everyday world, not just in the way we consume media but in the world around us. From our clothes and food, to our cars and the flowers we like to see growing, all the way to the makeup we like to use, they are all vibrant and life-giving.
