Never Forbidden Always Important Perfume
There are some things we consider it’s not ‘polite’ to talk about, but really, unless it’s ugly and nasty, racist or sexist, shouldn’t everything be on the table? In a whirlwind of confusion and in a world of far too much information, surely we should be able to discuss the important stuff without being embarrassed or shy? So let’s take a bit of time to talk about our ‘Lady Gardens’, and a connection to scent, well, sort of. Find out more in Never Forbidden Always Important Perfume.
We all may have our pet-names for the slightly embarrassing topics, and when we are talking about women’s sexual parts, Lady Garden is a common term. But it just so happens it’s an important name of a charity that deals with that: ladies’ gynaecological health. During the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the Lady Garden Foundation chose to partner with a different kind of scent, not an obvious floral one, but one that is bottled. This May, The Lab Co. partners with the Lady Garden Foundation to unveil FORBIDDEN BLOOM, a new Eau de Parfum.
More than just a name, the fragrance is a visual and sensory manifesto: by striking through the word “FORBIDDEN,” the partnership declares that the era of silence surrounding gynaecological health is over.
So what is the perfume? It’s a power floral with a twist. It opens at the top with a rich Chocolate accord melded with a hint of soft spice from Pink Pepper, bringing multi-faceted elements of dry, crisp aromas that combine zesty, citrusy facets. Alongside these come the warm, honeyed sweetness and powderiness of floral Mimosa. A ‘power-opener’ of a scent.
Its heart is an ode to the joy of florals and the modernity of Vanilla. Regal Jasmine, with its intoxicating animalic honeyed bloom fused with Resilient Rose. Here not as a single Rose note but an olfactory profile, one that is far more wild and ancient, becuase of originally was grown in harsh environments. This meets in harmony with the rich custard of Vanilla, bringing depth to the florals and heady sweetness ot the mix.
The final flourish is as if these notes wanted to be rooted in soil as they tie together. An Audacious Amber accord brings a warm, rich, slightly sweet, and resinous element with a balsamic, slightly woody edge that feels grounded. Tonka add to the creamy gourmand richness, whilst sandalwood brings a soft, almost lactonic velvety blend of woods, adding a warm hug to the dry down
This is a scent for people who are bold, audacious and are certainly not frightened to say it like it is. But there is far more to it, not just this perfume, or this collaboration, than meets the eye. This goes deeper than an initial meeting. It is a meeting of body, mind, soul and spirit.
The Lab Co. is a wonderful and magical company that has been producing mood-crafted fragrance developed under radically clean, hormone-conscious formulation standards and adhering in full to Breast Cancer UK’s Chemicals of Concern Framework. A brave and refreshing take from an independent brand. It is, after all, usually the small brands, the outsiders, the original thinkers who are prepared to do what is really needed.
In a world with a lack of clarity about the chemicals we use daily, and with many that can have dangerous side effects in the long term, The Lab Co took on this and created a ‘Full Stop’. Since 2020, they originally started with a core lineup of sustainable, eco-friendly laundry and fashion care products; they have since expanded into a full wellbeing and home-care brand featuring ultra-concentrated detergent strips, antibacterial all-purpose cleaners, and washing-up liquids. They are also known for being a “hormone-conscious” fragrance house, completely omitting toxic chemicals, carcinogens, and endocrine disruptors.
FORBIDDEN BLOOM is created under The Lab Co.’s Radically Clean & Hormone-Kind Standard™, whereby all ingredients fully adhere to the ‘Breast Cancer UK”s Chemicals of Concern framework (2024/2025).’ This reflects a new approach to fragrance, balancing emotional expression with modern ingredient awareness, in response to growing concerns around carcinogen exposure, hormone disruption, and the endocrine system. Hence why the link-up with The Lady Garden Foundation is such a refreshing collaboration. Not for headlines but for real, honest, loving and caring reasons. A portion of every sale is donated to theladygardenfoundation.com to help fight gynaecological cancers. Also, it’s important to understand that these are bespoke fragrances crafted with master perfumers in Grasse, France and London, UK.
It’s time to start talking; to not be held back by awkward moments. We call to action bold conversations. Presented within the Lady Garden Foundation’s ‘Silent No More’ Show Garden, designed by RHS Gold Medal-winner Darren Hawkes, this collaboration was a bold installation intended to spark vital conversations regarding the five gynaecological cancers through design, storytelling, and scent. Oh, and at the same time it smells divine.
